CHARACTER
Character Name: "Duke" Alla dAubergine (No longer an actual duke, only uses it as a nickname)
Character Age: Hundreds of years (He hasn't been counting)
Canon: Original Character
Canon Point: Pulled from his last played point in Hollow, a Furcadia dream.

World Description: Due to one of the curses laid upon him, he unwillingly jumps time & space to different places. The world which he first recalls and "grew up" in was a country called Racitoire. It very closely resembles 18th century Europe with French and British overtones. The native language is similar to French, but called Aciele. The beginnings of an agricultural revolution were taking place, with industrial revolution just over the horizon. Horses, carriages and wagons were primarily used for transportation. Although inventions were blossoming, scientific reasoning was still not universal. Despite having been back once before, it has been a long LONG time since he has returned and he doesn't have hope of returning anytime soon.

History:
Alla has been through a LOT. I'll try keeping things as short and sweet as possible. However, should you wish to read more, I have some places in which I have laid out bits of his history on that you're welcome to look over.

Alla is a child of a god of fear. He was cursed to spend his days traveling from world to world aiding people as a human to pay for all the harm he had done to humans in his own world. The curse messed up, and he lost his memory. Alla established a new identity for himself and was raised by humans. Despite his transformations, he was able to wed and become a Duke. Happily Ever After didn't last as he was shoved into other worlds at random. One, of which is where he met a young girl that he ended up adopting. Unfortunately for his new daughter, Duke once again fell into another world after another after another...
...forever paying for sins he has yet to remember.

One of the first worlds he went to he ended up finding an orphan girl and protected her from monsters preying on her. She didn't speak, possibly due to what she had gone through, and so he Named her Erika. He somewhat unofficially adopted her and they lived on the outskirts of another town together until she was taken in by an orphanage. He promised to always protect her, but he was unable to keep that promise due to being thrown into another world.

Another world was Demeleir, a Dreamwidth game, where he was among the Fae and several captors. he made quite a few friends there, including Eugene, which quickly became his new best friend after "passing" a few pranks. He also was able to experience what yellow looks like through an event which allowed one to visit another character's dreams.

There was another world in which he visited, in a Furcadia "dream," where he spent time owning a tailoring shop and learning the trade through his co-owner, Zephyer. He was just growing accustomed to life there, being a part of the community and making friends, when he was thrust elsewhere.

There was a time while he was still naive and befriended a noble who found his darker monstrous secret fascinating. Due to the last few places he had been to were so accepting of that part of him, Duke let his guard down. His supposes friend made Duke his bodyguard and servant through mind control. Duke did very horrible things, like killing and many other triggering things, while being controlled. He had given up fighting back until a young witch broke his binds and together they ended the noble's life. She invited him back to her home where he spent a long yet unknown time depressed. He secluded himself in the witch's safe haven and hardly moved or interacted with anyone or anything, only taking what fear he needed from the forest animals to barely hold onto life. In the end, he found his very presence there was actually boosting the witch's magic and her use of it was also just as ugly as the noble who once controlled him. It wasn't long until he was left with no choice but to escape from her in a similar manner he had to his previous handler. After that, he tried living as a beast and in turn protected the forest that had now become his sanctuary.

One of the following worlds he was thrown into was a familiar one, although only a bit slightly. He was reconnected with his daughter, Erika. Yet, she had grown into a woman and pirate. She harbored no love for Duke, as she blamed him for abandoning her. She too went through her own terrors, and it made her stronger. Unable to do anything for her, Duke did what he thought was best, and risked his life for his daughter by protecting her ship against a sea 'monster.' However, he did not die... but instead began a new life under water.

That wouldn't be his only reunion, as he later was brought back to the dAubergine estate, where he found the remains of his family. After learning of his wife's death and meeting his son, Alister, for the first time, Duke quickly blamed his absence for his son's outcome. Duke Alister dAubergine considers himself a Demon and possibly a god and prayed on humans as revenge.

After such horrible reunions, Duke did all he could from keeping promises. Still, he offered his abilities to get by. In one of his worldly travels, he ended up saving a succubus from extermination, and in exchange, she helped lead him and the group he was traveling without of a dangerous labyrinth.

There was a time he was abducted by a species and placed in containment for being out of alignment with the world he was in. They were a species that found other creatures from the wrong dimensions and times and looked to return them to their proper place in time and space. To prevent their specimens from escaping, they were locked into the current coordinates of time and space via a cloakable tag. In Duke's case, it was much like a collar and it was eventually disabled by a rebel group breaking out from their containment quarters. This caused Duke to resume world jumping again.

Eventually, he found himself meeting an old friend, the Succubus named Sherri, he had saved. She offered him sanctuary in her pocket dimension which was a demonic brothel of sorts. She helped him learn and accept the darker sides of his being and practiced shapeshifting with him. They were lovers. She even had someone "fix" his collar, so that he could control when it was on or off. Though she never thought he'd ever want to leave, Duke eventually decided to travel with his old friend, Eugene, from Demeleier, when the vampire made a sudden and unexpected visit.

Duke and Euegene were separated along their journey, and Duke found himself back in another familiar place. However, instead of being a tailor, he offered his guarding services to a Nobleman named Emrick. Duke turned a blind eye to his new master's sociopathic and murderous tendencies in light of meeting Maria. She was the mother of Emrick's finance. Despite their differenced, they became lovers and very close. She made Duke feel almost 'human' again. He wanted to do everything he could for her and even wanted to attempt one more time at being a father.

It didn't end up as he wished. Nothing ever does. As he was taken before his new child's birth.

Personality:
From a distance, Duke appears to be quite the gentleman, even in his "chimera" form. Human or not, he's respectful and kind to those around him, even if they are very different from himself. To him, there is no true evil or true good, just different perceptions. Over time, he has learned to keep mostly to himself, as meddling with too many people at once tends to spell trouble for himself. Duke is also a firm believer in balance, having worked a long time in an attempt to find such a thing within himself, he reflects that outwards on his surroundings when possible.

Despite his growth during his travels, Duke still often times seems dazed or in his own little world. He can sometimes appear completely hopeless and useless worrying over the silliest of things. Despite the various roles he has played in his life, his klutzy and more gullible tendencies tends to show through, especially in uncertain or embarrassing situations. In truth, most his behaviors are exaggerations of his true thoughts and feelings, including his clumsiness.

That being said, he's far more aware of his surroundings and inner workings than he lets on. Alla can be a bit of a snoop, listening in on other's conversations for curiosity's sake. He'll purposely act ignorant to avoid certain situations or topics, in hopes people will excuse him and move on. After all, he'd rather they consider him dimwitted than guess at his true nature.

Deep down, he is a lighthearted fellow who hides behind many faces to keep his emotional distance from others. In the end, he always fails and grows attached just enough to have it all taken from him. It is a cycle he is aware of but hasn't yet found a way to break.

Inventory: Aside from his red and black uniform, Duke has a small pouch of silver and gold. He also has his cloaked collar which once helped him keep from world-jumping but appears to be broken at the moment aside from the invisibility cloaking to make it look as if there is no collar at all. Last but not least, wrapped around his tail, just before the plume, is a long cloth wrapping that holds a small collection of items he keeps with him at all times. There is a small horn carving (made from his own horns, mind you) tied to a string as a necklace. A crystal and a rod with digital information kept on them from previous worlds.

Abilities:
Spots - Duke can materialize shadowy circles that are primarily used to absorb the fear in other beings. They're a strange extension of himself and appear weightless as they float and dart about in mid-air. When a mass number are in motion, they resemble a flock of insects or birds.
They are difficult to hit, except by wide-range attacks. Depending on his strength/health, Duke can have them travel miles away, usually as look-outs. He can also use them to sense other things and uses them to eavesdrop on others, which is more commonly what he uses them for.

To see more about his spots and how they affect others, please see my sticky post about them!

Regenerative - Duke can regenerate from most injuries, including to regrowing limbs, by feeding off fear.

Storms - Able to summon rain and clouds conditions due to the type of god that created him. Can create a hurricane if enough power is built into it and control can be sustained. However, the atmosphere must be capable of such conditions to work.

Water Breathing - A type of element manipulation and/or shape-shifting that allows for extended stays under water.

Hallucinations - Able to not only inflict fear, but see and control what is seen by those affected. Although, not always used when inflicting fear.

Emotion Manipulation - Duke can also manipulate emotions, to an extent. Mostly the increase or decrease in fear and similar emotions. He can draw those feelings out or conceal them momentarily. It's mainly used to manipulate someone into feeling safe and comfortable around him, for attacking, and even torture. He once consumed anger but was horribly bedridden and sick for weeks afterward.

Strength - the Actual strength of his horns and bones are sturdier than steel and have resistance to being cut even by diamonds. Otherworldly metals and weapons might cut them, but unknown until tried. They can, however, be damaged under extreme pressure, causing their structural integrity to crack.

Monotreme - When excess amounts of fear is absorbed and not used for a period of time, they will be released from the body in the form eggs. These eggs can sometimes even produce creatures, usually treacherous ("monsters") with no real consistency in form.

Shape Shifting - Duke can take any form, yet they must be practiced to form correctly. Despite how much he practices taking a form, there are certain characteristics that he is unable to change, such as hair color and blood color. He is also unable to decrease his heart count from three.

Below are his most familiar forms and additions to any form that he can create:

Human - 5'9" human male with pale complexion. His face is mostly square with a soft up-turned nose.Mostly black hair with two patches of powder pink on either side of his head.
Horse - Resembling a shire horse with black-blue feathering and a long powder pink mane.
Tentacles - Black tapered tentacles, sometimes translucent and smokey like his bones. And, yes, they're exactly what you think they're for.
Fins - Makes long excursions underwater much easier. Usually black or pink in color.

Flaws: Aside from his Tritanopia colorblindness, Duke is a cursed creature. He has killed, tortured, and even grown accustomed to darker tendencies during various moments of his life. Though, without the twisted curses laid upon him... Duke would most likely lack most the empathy and compassion for others that he has.

Due to the warping effect of his curse, Alla can't digest regular food properly. Only fear offers him nutritional value. He enjoys the taste and experience of food, but it doesn't do anything for him aside from aesthetic tastes.

His warped curses have the potential to corrode further and hurt him in endless ways.

As mentioned in his personality, he's extremely gullible and socially awkward and somewhat of a clutz.

No matter what shape or form Duke takes, his blood is a deep black hue, pumped via his circulatory system into three hearts, one primary and two sub-hearts. All three are vulnerable.

CR AU
Previous Game and Time:Demeleier October-2012 through June-2013 & Hollow (Furcadia) 2015-2016 (Don't have exact months but about 9 months)

Previous Development: I already touched on his development in the History section. But overall, his time in Demeleier was far earlier in his travels. However, he met one of the most important people in his life there; Eugene. Eugene was one of the first to accept Duke for everything he was and helped him grow self-confidence. He also helps him learn how to live outside the brothel and enjoy traveling again.

"As a sidenote, for CRAU characters, please remember that it is a game rule to ask permission before assuming CR with new characters that your character may have known in a previous game."

Having been to worlds and meeting various versions of folks, Duke has learned that even if someone looks the same, has the same name, it isn't good to assume they're the same until it is been brought up by the other person. So, despite seeing familiar faces, he won't act upon anything until the other does.
